Sashiko Denim Apron
The denim used is 100% sourced from Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, one of Japan's leading denim production areas, woven based on the indigo dyeing and weaving techniques cultivated from the Edo to Meiji periods.
Each piece is a unique item, reconstructed into an apron by hand. We acquire various scraps that reflect the production background of the time, such as differences in color, texture, and fabric width that arise from each production lot. Each scrap is then individually processed, combined, and reassembled by hand.
First, finely stitched vertically with natural indigo sashiko thread, the pieces are then joined together into a single fabric. After that, the borders of each piece are stitched with ecru sashiko thread, serving both as reinforcement and decoration.
At TMMY, based on the philosophy that "the future is always nostalgic, and the past is always new," we elevate and express the traditional craft of sashiko, and the work of artisans and regions across Japan who continue to preserve and evolve these techniques, through garment production.
